Una lapide in lingua latina affissa sulla Porta a Mare ne celebra l'avvenimento:
"TEMPLA, MOENIA, DOMUS, ARCES, PORTUM COSMUS FLORENTINORUM DUX A FUNDAMENTIS EREXIT A.D. MDXXXXVIII"
("I templi, le mura, le case, la rocca, il porto, Cosimo, Duca di Firenze, eresse dalle fondamenta nell'anno 1548").

Eine Steintafel über dem Stadttor "Porta a Mare " bezeugt dies:
"TEMPLA, MOENIA, DOMUS, ARCES, PORTUM COSMUS FLORENTINORUM DUX A FUNDAMENTIS EREXIT A.D. MDXXXXVIII" (Tempel, Mauern, Häuser die Burg, der Hafen, Cosimo der Herzog von Florenz baute 1548 auf die Fundamente).

A plaque, written in Latin above the 'Porta a Mare' (Sea gate) commemorates the event:
"TEMPLA, MOENIA, DOMUS, ACRES, PORTUM COSMUS FLORENTINORUM DUX A FUNDAMENTIS EREXIT AD MDXXXXVIII."
(The temples, the walls, the houses, the fortress, the port, Cosimo, Duke of Florence, erected the foundations in the year 1548)
